Hyper-V Server Manager

SmartCode Hyper-V Server Manager allows an administrator to view, manage and establish remote desktop connections to virtual machines hosted on a Hyper-V host.

To launch the Hyper-V Server Manager, right click on a computer and in the context menu select the Hyper-V Management Tasks \ Hyper-V Server Manager command. The window that opens will contain the list of the virtual machines registered on the server. The following information is available in the list:

  • VM name
  • Current VM state (running, stopper, etc.)
  • IP addresses – the list of the IP addresses assigned to guest Ethernet adapters. In order to show this information Integration services must be installed in the VM
  • Description
Managing VM States
To Start/Stop/Pause/Save/Restore/Reset a VM, select the desired VMs and either use the context menu or the main toolbar.
Establishing a Remote Desktop Connection
The Hyper-V Server Manager supports several methods to establish a remote desktop connection to the virtual machine.
  • Pass-through RDP Connection via the Hyper-V Host
This method is similar to opening a remote desktop connection to a VM inside Microsoft Hyper-V Manager. Note that the Hyper-V Host computer’s firewall must have port 2179 open. The Hyper-V server uses this port to accept pass-thought RDP connections to the virtual machines on the server. When you use this connection method you may receive the following error: “A connection will not be made because credentials may not be sent to the remote computer. For assistance, contact your system administrator.” See the following Microsoft KB to fix this problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954357
  • Direct VNC or RDP Connection
The SmartCode Hyper-V Server Manager allows you to open a RDP or VNC connection to a VM if it has Integration services installed and has either one or multiple virtual Ethernet adapters configured.

APPLIES TO: SmartCode VNC Manager (Enterprise Edition) v1802 or newer
