Sending Console Messages (msg.exe, mailslot\messngr)
This feature allows you to send a console message to a user logged on to a remote computer.
"Send Console Message" Form

To open the Send Console Message form, right click on a computer and select Computer Management Tasks -> Send Console Message command. Alternatively, you can use Ctrl+M as a shortcut to open the form.

Send Console Message with SmartCode VNC Manager
The numbered items apply to the numbers shown in the picture above:

  1. The text of the message you want to send.
  2. Allows you to specify a method that will be used to console message.
    Method Name Description
    msg.exe Launches msg.exe tool to send a console message. This is the recommended method for sending console messages.

    You may receive one of the following errors when you use msg.exe to send console messages:
    Error 5 Getting Session Names
    Error 5 Access is denied

    In order to fix these errors you must add the following registry value to the remote computers (no reboot required):
    Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server
    Value name: AllowRemoteRPC
    Type: DWORD
    Value: 1
    mailslot\messngr Opens an IPC connection to the Windows Messenger service via MAILSLOT\Messngr protocol.
